4:48 p.m. - 2008-03-29 The building had originally 9 floors which were later taken to the height of 11 floors after the inclusion of the two floors. The building was purely used for the office work and many offices were established on different floors. The building was originally 138 feet tall which was really a great milestone at that time to hit and then after the inclusion of the two additional floors the height was taken to 180 feet. The basic design of the building included the skeletal structure which was a new concept at that time and later on opened new era for the architects. The unique design was the first one of its type to use steel in the design but most of the design still had the cast iron in it. The architect who made this great work a reality was William LeBaron Jenney. Chicago school of architecture have this building as an example for the building architects and it was considered a master piece of its time. The building was demolished in the year 1931 to make way for the field building which is now the LaSalle Bank Building. Related Links: 0 comments
